Happy Cinco de Mayo and 120th Anniversary of Carnegie Hall!!

Let's have a little Mexican music for Cinco de Mayo!! Never mind that the day's festivities spring from a beer company hoping to increase sales.  We're happy we live next to Mexico, and we love the Mexican people.

democracyforcalifornia introduced me to Los Tres Ases (The Three Aces) a popular Mexican band of the 1950s:

This tribute to Carnegie Hall, which celebrates 120 years today, comes from Open Culture.  When I took classes at the Art Students League in NYC in the 90s, the building was always easy to find because it's across the street and down the block a bit from Carnegie Hall.  I am sorry to say I've never been inside for an event. I went to Reb Lisa's post-ordination luncheon at the Russian Tea Room, though.  That's in the same block....

  1. Cinco de Mayo (the fifth of May) is big in Tucson, too< Mariachi bands abound.

Cinco de Mayo is a triple header in my family - birthday of one sister and two nephews. Only two of them live close enough to wish each other Happy Birthday in person, though. Could make for a great party theme!

  3. Anonymous...One sister? You have more than one? Or isn't this who I think it is????

  4. Heifetz is so CRISP, isn't he? It's a certain kind of perfection, crystalline and admirable. I like my violin a little on the sloppy, romantic side--more heart, even if I have to sacrifice skill. But you absolutely cannot fault the precision.

I doubt I'll ever make it to Carnegie Hall, either, but I can listen and watch anyway...the internet is wonderful that way!

  5. Nance: Heifetz is the sound of my youth, when my parents listened to classical music on the radio on Sundays. He is indeed "crystalline and admirable." My favorite violinist these days is Sarah Chang--she has lots more JUICE!!!
